With a population of more than 21,946 persons, the XINH MUN live in border communes of Yen Chau, Song Ma Moc Chau Districts, Son La Province and Dien Bien Dong District, Dien Bien Province.

The THO have a population of more than 76,191 inhabitants living in Thuong Xuan District of Thanh Hoa Province and the western part of Nghe An Province.

The KINH or VIET have a population of about 71.3 million persons, accounting for about 87% of the total population of the country.

The SAN DIU have a population of about 140,629 people inhabiting in the mildlands of Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang Provinces.

The THAI have a population of more than 1,449,084 inhabitants living in the provinces of Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

The TA OI have a population of over 38.946 inhabitants divided into three local subgroups: Ta-uot (Ta Oi, Ta-hoi), Pa Co and Ba Hi.

The SAN CHAY community consists of two major subgroups:  Cao Lan and San Chi, with a total population of more than 162,031 inhabitants.

The NUNG have about 914,350 inhabitants concentrating in the provinces of Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Can, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang and Tuyen Quang.

The RA GLAI have a population of more than 108,442 inhabitants, living chiefly in southern Khanh Hoa Province and Ninh Thuan Province.
