Annam Technique

This is a set of books “Technique of the Annamese People” written in French by OGER and published in Paris into 200 copies.

Is it correct that the woodcuts in this set of documents “Technique of the Annamese People” belong to a new line of folk paintings – different from the familiar ones of Dong Ho village or Hang Trong street – or are these woodcuts.

Later on, when he collaborated with Maurice Durand to write the book entitled “Knowledge of Vietnam” Pierre Huard had mentioned in his bibliographical part Henri Oger’s work entitled: “General Introduction to the Study of the Technique of the Annamese People”.

Henri Oger (1885-1936?) was born at Montrevault (Maine et Loire) on October 31, 1885.

This is a research work entitled: “Technique of the Annamese People by Henri Oger” consisting of documents gathered at the Midland of North Vietnam, particularly in Hanoi in the years 1908-1909.

This is a historical collection of paintings pertaining to our people’s living condition in the past, and going from all branches of social activities to various aspects of moral and cultural life. More than 4000 woodcuts constitute a lively, diversified, and extremely rich document which permits us to learn about the customs, habits, and beliefs of our people in a past historical period.
