Vietnam Lunar New Year

For those who have plots of land for gardening, they have to collect all year round fallen leaves and kept them above their stoves at the kitchen for wrapping giò!  With regard to making square cakes, those families which are used to wrapping the cakes with  boiled maranta leaves will, after the leaves are well boiled, tie them closely around the house pillars for handy use.

Nowadays, the term “Tết” has been considered by certain countries as a kind of extremely original “Holiday” of the Vietnamese nation, a great holiday somewhat different from the ones of other nations in the area (Japan, Korea…) and influenced by Chinese culture.

Probably, for this reason, Henri Oger found his place in recording Vietnam’s social activities with thousands of original wood engraving sketches.
